RESEARCHconnect has launched new product features which provide research institutions with a streamlined way to focus research funding support where it matters. A key goal of research offices is to improve support for researchers and drive measurable impact. And yet, proposal development and internal review can be a time-consuming task for research managers and administrators.
Having signed a partnership agreement with Dutch-based grant proposal experts Impacter in July 2019, RESEARCHconnect and Impacter teams have been working to provide an enhanced suite of funding tools to help support researchers across the world to identify and apply for funding opportunities. The initial phase of integration links content from both products, providing support throughout the funding workflow – from finding suitable funding calls and developing proposals, to identifying alternative sources of funding if unsuccessful.
Clients using RESEARCHconnect and Impacter are now able to receive research call alerts based on grant proposal documents. The integrated tools also use AI to provide researchers with tailored feedback to improve their initial proposals and ensure they meet funders’ requirements.
University of Maastricht is one of the first RESEARCHconnect clients to test and benefit from the integrated tools. As one of the leading young universities in the world, UM is among the 18 highly-ranked founding members of the Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN), which aims to create more opportunities for international research collaboration.
Further developments are already planned, including the ability for UK clients to receive instant feedback on grant proposals for calls from funders including the AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC, MRC, NERC, STFC and more.
The changing funding landscape means that funders often require rapid responses to specific funding calls, have introduced mechanisms to manage demand and have shifted the emphasis from small-scale funding for individuals towards fewer awards for large interdisciplinary research teams. These challenges mean that research offices can be forced to prioritise the support they provide.
The new integrated tools from RESEARCHconnect and Impacter reduce the duplication of effort and support a research culture of active and engaged researchers.
